Broadway For Kids - Great Family Shows In New York City!

When it comes to finding exciting musicals and plays for the family, well  then Broadway for kids is as good as it gets. Broadway always keeps a few delightful musicals and plays in the lineup so family's can plan a great all around trip to the city which includes a theater show. As soon as one beloved production closes a new one will quickly replace it. Disney is usually the leader for bringing their popular stories and characters to the Great White Way with huge blockbusters like "The Lion King," "Mary Poppins" and The Little Mermaid. Now others are joining in order to bring wonderful family fun onto the stage adding to the variety with such shows as "Shrek - The Musical."

Unfortunately, two great family shows have closed with "The Little Mermaid" last summer and "Shrek" in fall 2010. Here is a look at some of the current produc! tions and soon to be opening shows that will keep kids of all ages entertained.

broadway for kidsThe Lion King - Probably the "all around" best show for the entire family to see. Based on the classic Disney story it has been playing in its Broadway musical format since November 13, 1997. The production is lavish bringing all the animals of Africa to the Minskoff Theatre, the stage and costume design is simply amazing. The musical also delivers a wonderful score mainly written by Elton John with lyrics by Tim Rice. The sounds and scenery really bring the story of Simba and his journey through "the circle of life" alive. This will be a show which will leave the family singing together for days and produce lifetime memories.

Mary Poppins - The second recommendation for a Broadway for kids musical is of the P.L. Travers’ stories which turned into the popular 1964 Walt Disney film. Mary Poppins has found a home at the New Amsterdam Theatre on November 16, 2010 and is a! great family style musical, which includes even so memorable ! songs. The Academy Award winning songs originally written by the Sherman brothers for the film, including such classics as “A Spoonful of Sugar," “Feed the Birds” and even adds new songs such as “Practically Perfect." The Broadway musical version is a little different than the original movie in perhaps what can be explained as "darker?" Still, one can see why Disney followed their success on Broadway with this story and why parents and children are enjoying it together.

The Pee-Wee Herman Show - Here is one of the family-oriented shows to look forward to on Broadway this fall! The classic and groundbreaking Saturday morning television show is now heading to the Stephen Sondheim Theatre for an opening on November 11, 2010. Paul Reubens will revise his beloved character "Pee-Wee" for a Broadway musical after a successful run of the show in Los Angeles. It promises to be a big and bold stage show with music, reuniting Pee-Wee and his Pl! ayhouse gang for more adventure. It is sure to be an amazing show filled with non stop laughs and amusement. Keep any eye out for ticket's sales at the box office in late summer/early fall 2010.

These three shows should provide all the variety for the family heading to Broadway. You cannot go wrong with "The Lion King," the show will deliver an amazing theatrical experience. Mary Poppins will provide the classic Disney story that parents and children have been enjoying for years. If looking for something new, fresh and different than the Broadway production of The Pee-Wee Herman Show will likely be the big blockbuster opening for the 2010 fall season. Make sure to check the theater box office for tickets ahead of time so you are not disappointed and enjoy the show!
