Money is always the number one consideration when you are plotting your family’s annual vacation.... Especially when you have been on a tight budget the whole year round.   But..... you and your family must realize that family vacations are important (Remember - they build life experiences!)....  You get to spend quality time together, away from the office – phone calls, meetings, emails; and daily chores.   But sometimes it can really be frustrating trying to plan quality, but cheap family vacations nowadays.

To get you started, we came up with five ideas for cheap family vacations. You can take your whole family to historical sites, national parks, theme parks and small towns across America.

1. California
San Francisco may seem to be very expensive to visit, but families can go to Marin County California, where there are a lot of high-value hotels and B&Bs. You can take a ferry boat from there going to Larkspur Landing into the city. The kids would surely enjoy that ferry trip and it beats downtown traffic. Once in San Francisco, you can go strolling through Union Square and then go to Chinatown to have lunch. You may want to take a bus to Fisherman’s Wharf then take a trolley back to the Embarcadero and the Ferry Building, where you can find a really great indoor food market as well as outdoor Fisherman’s Market. Forget the idea of having a rent-a-car service since you can go around by bus.

2. Indiana
Holiday World in Santa Claus is an affordably priced theme park. You and your kids can do a lot of things in the theme park. Preschoolers would definitely enjoy rides at Rudolph’s Reindeer Ranch while parents and the older kids might like more daring rides like Raven and Legend wooden roller coasters. Admissions to Holiday World also include Splashin’ Safari Water Park. Younger kids can play in Crocodile Isles which has two pools with a connecting slide; while older family members can try Zoombabwe, the world’s largest enclosed water slide. What is interesting to note is that the park offers unlimited soft drinks and free sunscreen that goes with the price of admission.

3. Pennsylvania
Gettysburg National Military Park, Gettysburg was the site of the largest Civil War Battle, the Battle of Gettysburg, in July 1-3, 1863. This also where President Abraham Lincoln gave his famous Gettysburg Address; which he delivered during declaration ceremonies in November, 1863. The Park is one of the world’s largest collections of outdoor sculpture with over 1,400 monuments, markers, and memorials. The Visitor Center offers free maps for an 18-mile driving tour or a 1-mile self guided walking tour through the battlefield. A perfect place where your kids could learn about history.

4. Ohio
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland is a great destination. You can introduce to the kids the music their grandparents and their parents used to listen to. This glass and steel pyramid was built in 1986 and has a view of Lake Erie. Young and old alike can enjoy listening to rock classics, see personal memorabilia from rock stars, and learn more about the Hall of Famers.

5. Your own town
Don’t really have the means to go out of town? Not to worry, you can check out free or low cost events in your own town or neighboring communities. These can include annual festivals, state or country fairs, state or local programs, or performances or recitals at colleges and universities.

There are hundreds more ideas for cheap family vacations..... You just have to be creative and consider what your family could enjoy doing together without breaking your bank account.
