Costa Maya Cruise Port - A small taste of Mexico |
![]() |
Costa Maya is a beautiful vacationer's paradise, but it is almost a "private island" for the cruise ships. It is a completely enclosed shopping / pool / bar and restaurant / beach area, built exclusively to lure the Cruise Ship passengers. Even though this is the reason that the village exists, it is still a refreshing stop for cruise ship passengers.
We visited the Costa Maya Cruise Port on out Carnival Dream Cruise in May of 2010. The weather was beautiful, but it was hot - and this was only May! The "no worry" atmosphere of Costa Maya will keep most people happy - there are shopping area, a large pool with a swim up bar, and a beach area with water sports. Every hour or so, there are entertainers..... It is really a fun atmosphere.

Costa Maya does offer some Mayan Ruins shore excursions... these excursions will take you beyond the reaches of the enclosed village.
If your cruise ship happens to make a stop in Costa Maya, take time to get off the ship and explore the area... There are many tourist attractions to catch your eye, and many great photo opportunities..... a Caribbean vacation for some of us comes few and far between, so enjoy the trip!
