Counting Cars - a fun travel game
by Kenna
When my family went on a trip to chicago a few weeks ago there were two boys in the back seat, ages 7 and 9 - both full of energy and very loud.
One way we found out to keep them quite was to ask them to try and count how many of a certain colored car drove by them on our trip and that then next time we'd stop we'd see who counted the most cars of their description. For example we told one of the boys to count the red pick up trucks that we pass and for the other boy we asked him to count the blue pick up trucks. At the end when we eventually do stop the one boy that does win gets to get any candy or chocolate we wants (basically any snack he wanted from the gas stop).
Helps Traveling Kids Relax
Although depending on the child they can sometimes get cranky and want to stop, but in other hands they might not. You see, we were on the road for a while and they hadn't slept yet and you could tell they would eventually fall asleep but the sooner the better right? So by playing this counting cars travel game they would fall asleep faster which worked like a miracle!! Since they're watching for cars and seeing nothing but roads eventually they go right to sleep. Just in case they don't (although most of the times it usually does work) make sure your up for the stop if needed, not necessarily for gas but for whatever it might be.
