Dollywood Theme Park - Fun Family Vacations in the Great Smoky MountainsDollywood Theme Park, in the Great Smoky Mountains offers a great time for children and adults alike ... |
![]() |
Our family lives just two hours from the Dollywood Theme Park, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, so we try to take family vacations there pretty often. Dollywood offers a season pass option that is a pretty good deal, and we have taken advantage that season pass of for the past few years. The season pass is approximately the equivalent of two regular admissions.... so as long as we visit more than twice, we feel like we get our money's worth.
The employees of Dollywood are very friendly and helpful. The restaurants and food kiosks offer complementary ice water for the asking. Dollywood Theme Park is a spot for great family vacations.
My husband and I do not get to attend very many of the shows, but the ones that we have seen are great. When it is really warm in the summer, we try to catch a show at the Pines Theater in mid-afternoon. We thoroughly enjoy our trips to Dollywood. Dollywood has something for every age group from fast roller coasters and water rides to a great Country Fair area with rides for young old alike.
2008 Update
Our Family's newest favorite ride at Dollywood is the Mystery Mine. The ride features a 95 degree 85 foot drop into darkness. It is a steel frame coaster that runs cars that seat 8 passengers. The Dollywood workers do a great job getting the cars filled quickly, and the wait is amazingly short.

A massive wooden rollercoaster featuring a 100-foot drop and a top speed of 55 mph. This is a favorite of ours. It is wooden though, so expect to be "shaken". |

A triple spiral-looping coaster makes you feel like you've landed inside a funnel cloud as you zoom down a 128-foot drop through an actual mountain at speeds of 70 mph. Pure Fun!!! |

A kid's drop tower - but it is thrilling for the adults too. It feels like your stomach is going to drop through your toes.... the ride is long enough to be worth a long wait on a hot day. |

A ride that glides back and forth while simultaneously spinning in circles. This ride is a hoot.... I absolutely LOVE it... I could ride it over and over and over. |
Our Recommendations
Arrive early to enjoy some of the more popular rides before the crowds get
heavy. We have been able to ride Daredevil Falls multiple times without
having to get off the ride when we head straight there at park opening.
If
you are in the park for lunch or dinner, try one of the two "All you can eat"
restaurants, Aunt Grannies, or Miss Lillian's Chicken House. Both are very
reasonably priced. Miss Lillian entertains during the meal, and is also
know to get the patrons involved in the fun!
Budget Tips
Try to just
eat once while you are in the park.
