Edisto Island, South Carolina is one of the most quiet, relaxed beach communities that we have ever visited. There is absolutely no commercialization that you see at more "popular" beaches.... this is actually a pretty nice respite form the worries of the world that we do not find very often!!!
Edisto Island Vacations can be one of the most relaxing of all family beach vacations. If you are looking for a wild nightlife, or a lot of amusement parks and chain restaurants, then you are looking in the wrong place..... but, if you want a relaxing environment that will enable you to re-connect with your family - then you will love Edisto Island!
There are no large hotel chains along the beach - you will find many private homes and a resort - The Wyndham Ocean Ridge, which is where we stayed.
Dolphins
One
of the best Edisto Island Vacations activities is to gather at the beach at
sunset - that is when the dolphins come in close - you will see people in boats,
on surfboards, or just wading - all waiting to see the dolphins - of
course, we journeyed out the beach to take a look.... the dolphins really come
close enough to the coastline to see them - I spoke to some people who had
ventured out into the water, and they reported that the dolphins were gentle
enough to pet when they swam by...
Edisto Island Beach Restaurants
Edisto Island Vacations include some great food - In all of our travels, we like to find local restaurants, and try some dishes that we cannot get everyday at home! Some that we found on Edisto Beach are.....
The WaterFront Restaurant - We enjoyed a very nice dinner at the Waterfront. The wait staff were very attentive and we were well taken care of. The crabcakes were excellent, and the salad was fresh! The atmosphere in the restaurant was very nice.... we would definitely visit again.
McKonkey's Jungle Cafe - We enjoyed a really nice lunch at McKonkey's. The restaurant had a real nice feel to it - and the daily specials were great! We tried their bar-b-que - it was great, and was served with a homemade relish. The children tried a hot dog - very large portions.....
