Family Vacation travel with small children and babies

For most people, just thinking of packing up the van and traveling across the country with your children makes you cringe. For me and my family it is something we look forward to and actually enjoy. To top it off I have four year old triplets.
Map Your Route
The most important thing you will need to do is to map our your route, if possible see if you can find where local rest stops are. (this was a life saver) When my children were babies we would mostly stop at rest stops. We would take turns going to the bathroom while the other stayed and changed diapers stretched the babies and cleaned up the van. This kept the kids from being exposed to germs and us from going stir crazy.
Call The Hotel Yourself
My second tip would be to call for your hotel reservation, do not make them on line, you will want to speak directly to the hotel, not a reservation line but the hotel them selves. By doing this I was able to ensure that we not only got a suite but that we got a first floor suite, and that they would have three baby beds set up for us. In addition I was even lucky enough to have a hotel agree to help me get things out of the car. In addition they gave the kids and well mommy and daddy a surprise in our room, toys for the kids and an after dinner drink, bottle of wine, for mommy and daddy. Trust me this was needed.
Plan ahead for your meals
For breakfast we would eat in the hotel, lunch was on the road, normally in the van fast food. However dinner was all about the delivery. Every thing to make life easier for us and so we would not have to get the children out too much.
When they were babies, I would bring bottled water and have the powder for the formula in the bottom of the bottles. All I needed to do was add water and shake, this saved time and was stress free.
You can travel with small children, yes even triplets. It requires planning ahead of time and some creativity but it can be done.
