Grand Canyon Camping

As far as holidays go, it doesn`t get any more spectacular than Grand Canyon Camping. When planning a holiday to this awe-inspiring location, visitors will first need to decide whether they want to visit the Canyon`s North or South Rim. Most people choose the South Rim as it is easier to get to and more adapted to holiday makers.   The two Rims are split by the Colorado River, a mile-deep waterway. Even though the average distance between the North and South Rims across the canyon is merely 10 miles, it would take 5 hours to drive the 215 miles between the North and South Rim Villages.

The South Rim is open to visitors all year round and located in the Arizona region. It is near to the Interstate 40 and the transportation centers of Phoenix, Arizona and Williams, Flagstaff. The South Rim also benefits from a local airport and train service. Because the South Rim is easy to reach, it can be very busy, particularly during the summer months. Tourists should book their campsite pitches well in advance as the grounds are often filled to maximum capacity.

The North Rim is harder to reach and considerably more secluded and wild. Due to its 2438m (8,000 ft) elevation, the North Rim is only open between May and October. The North Rim is located in the Utah region, with the nearest towns to the North Rim village being Kanab, Utah and Fredonia, Arizona. Unlike the South Rim, there is no rail service or airport access to the park, so the North Rim village can only be reached by road. Because the season is shorter to visit the North Rim, it is also recommended to make early bookings to campgrounds, to avoid disappointment.

The climate, scenery and vegetation are all different in the North and South Rims, which is due to North Rim being much more elevated. It would take a lot of time and planning to visit these very different parks in one trip, but would be worth it to appreciate the astounding differences between the two.

Grand Canyon Camping in the South Rim is restricted to established campsites. Camping fees are in addition to park entrance fees and are usually charged per night. During the winter months it is often not possible to make advanced bookings and some campsites enforce a 7 day stay limit. Many campgrounds cater for tent and RV campers and are well-equipped with amenities including lavatories, showers, laundry facilities, campfire grills on pitch and picnic tables. Sites generally allow two vehicles and up to three tents per pitch, with groups sites also available.

One particularly popular campsite in the South is the Grand Canyon Williams Eurocamp, located in Arizona. The park is bursting with history, folklore and legends of the great Wild West. There are amazing nearby sights to see and museums to explore, with plenty of entertainment and learning experiences for children. The park offers much scope for adults to relax in beautiful surroundings, with excellent accommodation options and plenty of places to eat and enjoy the traditional local cuisine. Whether looking to see the sites, relax and unwind or sample culinary delights, the Eurocamp Grand Canyon Holiday Park is a great holiday destination.
