We visited Great America while in San Francisco in May 2007. In 2007, we purchased Cedar Fair Maxx Passes (Now called the Platinum Season Pass) while at Carowinds Theme Park, which allow for entrance to any Cedar Fair Park.... so, while in California, we visited the park.
We were immediately struck with the beauty of the Great America. It was very clean and well landscaped. Even the girls commented on the appearance of the park....which says a lot!
Great America is owned and operated by the same group (Cedar Fair Theme Parks) as Carowinds Theme Park, so there are some similarities. For instance, The Top Gun Jetcoaster, and the Stand-up coaster, Vortex that we found at Carowinds Theme Park are also at Great America. Since we had ridden these before, we concentrated on the rides unique to Great America this time around. We have listed our favorites in the grid below....

We found while we were at Kings Island Amusement Park that just because rides have the same name, that they are not necessarily the same. So, if you have the chance to visit multiple parks, ride all the rides in each park for a good comparison!

Invertigo
This roller coaster is INCREDIBLE! Up a 138 foot tower and then released for a free fall through several loops and twists.... then up the second 138 foot tower.... only to turn right around and do it again "backward". |

Delirium
A spinning pendulum that is more of a thrill ride than you might think when it first starts! We were screaming before the ride was over! |

The Grizzly
A wooden roller coaster that is a good long ride. It shakes you like a wooden roller coaster should, and is definitely worth the wait. |

Survivor: The Ride
A spinning disk on a wave-like roller coaster track.... you face outwards, and rise to 5 stories high at the ends of the track. As the disk moves along the track, there is great tribal music in the background adding to the atmosphere. It is a really good ride! |
