Hilton Head Island Restaurants - First Hand Reviews

Hilton Head Restaurants are some of the finest restaurants that our family have ever visited....

Here you will find the first hand reviews of the restaurants that we have visited ourselves, as well as reviews of Hilton Head Island Restaurants by some of our faithful readers and friends! now, be prepared - we have always found the restaurants in Hilton Head to be a little pricy compared to your average hometown, but the food has always been very good.

As a very special treat, a great number of these restaurants have been reviewed by my daughter, Sara, who just happens to be working in Hilton Head in 2008.  She is doing an internship at one the resorts on the Island, and has the opportunity to visit many of the Hilton Head Island Restaurants.....

Now for the reviews -

Alexander's

Sara says...The menu and wine list are excellent at Alexander's. The staff is extremely knowledgeable of the cuisine and wine pairings. Alexander's is a nice casual Hilton Head Island restaurant that offers a wide variety of seafood, steak and chicken with fresh vegetables. It is moderately upscale, therefore, you should wear more than jeans, but not quite coat and tie.

Aunt Chiladas Easy Street Cafe - This is a quaint little cafe on Pope Avenue.  The cafe serves American, Southwestern, Italian, Mexican, and Seafood.... so there is quite a choice, and you will surely find something for everyone in your party.  Most of our group had something southwestern... my son ordered the chicken finger meal.....

For the most part, our meal was good.  We did have to send the chicken Fingers back because they were too "done".

Sara Says....Something for everyone's taste buds can be found here with a menu of seafood, Italian, southwestern, and American. With several items in each genre, I did not find something that easily satisfied my picky taste. However, everyone else in my group found something they really enjoyed. While my taste buds were not fully satisfied, the atmosphere and service were great.

Brella's Cafe - Crown Plaza

Sara Says....Serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They easily accommodated large groups, such as mine of 15. Presentation was amazing, very friendly staff, and delicious food is how I would describe Brella's. They have inside and outside seating. They also have a good selection of vegetarian options. Priced as a hotel will price their food, but you get what you pay for there.

Brick Oven Cafe

Sara Says... Sounds like they only serve pizza, when in fact they have so much more. Seafood, pasta, chicken, and steaks can also be found on their menu. The setting makes you feel like you are at a little Italian cafe with its dark drapes, black walls, and booths that sit out from the wall. If pizza is on your mind and you don't want to sit in a sports bar or order in, Brick Oven is one of the Hilton Head Island Restaurants for you.

Callahan's Sports Bar

Sara Says... Offers a variety of generally fried food, normal bar food. They have eight pool tables, high top tables for cocktails, as well as a separate sitting area. They also have arcade-like games that add to the bar atmosphere.

Crane's Tavern

Sara Says... If steak is on your mind, Crane's is the place for you. Crane's is a nice casual dress restaurant serving the best steak on the Island. The wine list is extensive as well as the dessert menu. They also offer a variety of after dinner coffees. The place is quite small so you should make reservations.

The Crazy Crab - We chose the location in Sea Pines for our dinner this night so that we could also explore Harbour Towne in Sea Pines.  The dinner was great, and we had excellent service.  Amanda is a huge crab leg fan, so she enjoyed crab legs while the rest of us dined on seafood platters.

Giuseppi's Pizza and Pasta

Sara Says... Typical pizza bar atmosphere with menu items ranging from pizza to wraps to pasta to seafood. One of the very relaxing Hilton Head Island restaurants - great after a long day of sight seeing and shopping. I found it is conveniently located near the Shelter Cove Mall.

Hinchey's Chicago Bar and Grill

Sara Says... A restaurant within a few hundred yards of the beach with a great atmosphere. It is decorated with Chicago sports memorabilia. Very casual restaurant and decently priced. Good atmosphere for kids until 9pm or so. That is when they have live music and it turns into more of a bar than restaurant. Still a good variety of food and drink specials nightly.

Marleys Island Grille -  The atmosphere at Marleys is great.  The food was wonderful - full of taste and well presented.  The food was a little pricier than other restaurants that we have visited while in Hilton Head.  The kids meals were great - really GOOD food.

Sara says...  As a concierge for a resort on the Island, I recommend Marley's to anyone who wants excellent seafood at a moderate price. Marley's is casual, Caribbean themed restaurant that is fun for the whole family.

Murphy's Irish Pub

Sara Says...

If you want authentic Irish cuisine, Murphy's is the place for you. It's a small pub like atmosphere, but the friendly faces really make you feel at home. They have a wide selection on Irish beers and food. Their homemade Rueben sandwich and corn beef and cabbage are local favorites. While there are usually only two bartenders/servers and one cook, they have the great customer service. I will go there again especially on St. Patrick's Day.

Old Fort Pub - As of March 2008, The Old Fort Pub was ranked number one among Hilton Head Island Restaurants on Trip Advisor...

Sara Says...

They are part of the Lowery Group that owns five other restaurants on the Island. The service is absolutely amazing. They treated me like royalty. The dining room looks out over Skull Creek. Every table has a perfect view of the water. I went when it was raining, but even in the dreary weather, the view was breath taking. Even the bathroom is lavish with towels, lotion, and hairspray to make your night out perfect. Each of the managers came to the table to make sure our meal was to our liking. A definite must when visiting Hilton Head Island.

Salty Dog Cafe -  Sea Pines.  This Hilton Head Island restaurant was a special request of the children.  The cafe is a fun place to eat.  The motif is a harbor front restaurant with an outdoor bar and grill along with a restaurant serving lunch and dinner.  The mascot is "Jake" - the salty dog.  The T-shirts are a must-have item from the area.   There are two Salty Dog T-shirt Factory locations on the island.  The Salty Dog Cafe is a staple of Hilton Head Island Restaurants.

Skillets Cafe

Sara Says..... Located in Coligny Plaza, it is perfect for a lunch on the patio after a morning of touring the shops. They are opened for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It is a littler pricey than the other lunch options in Coligny; however, you will get what you pay for in the service and quality of food.

Steamers Seafood Company

Sara Says... Found in Coligny Plaza overlooking the duck pond, this is a great venue for outside dining for lunch or dinner. While most of their entrees are fried, I found that their crab cakes and salads were amazing. Very casual with TVs over the bar, good music, and friendly staff.

Stacks Pancakes - We visited Stacks Pancakes on  Monday morning in February, and this Hilton Head Island restaurant was full... I imagine that there would be a long wait during the peak tourist season.  The food is great, but the portions are absolutely huge!!!  You might consider sharing entrees.

Waterfront Cafe

Sara Says.... GREAT for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Wonderful view of the harbor, perfect for sunset dining. The crab cakes are absolutely to die for and the service is amazing. The Waterfront Cafe is a casual dress Hilton Head Island restaurant offering such amazing seafood, it is hard to choose what you want.

Wild Wing Cafe

Sara Says..... They have so many wing sauces to choose from, it will take a while to decide. They have inside and outside seating which is great for Hilton Head's warm afternoons and chilly evenings in the Spring. They have local bands play weekly as well as sporting event specials. Basically a very casual restaurant that serves chicken any way you like it: wrapped, fried, grilled, blackened, and dipped in hot sauce.
