- The Memorial, is situated at the South Bank of Tidal Basin in Washington, DC. There’s no fee in entering the building but it’s only open from 8 A.M. to 11:45 P.M. daily except during Christmas day.
- Clearly, the memorial is dedicated to the third president of the United States of America, Thomas Jefferson. Memorial house is a symbol of faith and liberty for the American people. The wise words of Thomas Jefferson that were uttered during his service now adorn the walls of his Memorial.
- The Memorial is modeled after the Pantheon of Rome, a majestic ancient temple in Rome that is originally built for all the gods, and is the main attraction in Washington, DC. The circular style of the memorial has been the idea of the former president.
- The Memorial is being cared, handled and managed by the National Park Service under the classification of National Mall and Memorial Parks. The American Institute of Architects listed and ranked The Memorial forth under their List of America’s Favorite Architecture.
- Architect Russell John Pope designed the memorial inspired with the ideas and works of Thomas Jefferson. Sculptor Rudolph Evans sculpted the bronze statue weighing five tons and 19 feet in height of Jefferson and was placed at the center of the Memorial four years after the dedication.
- The Memorial was finally dedicated on the 200th birth anniversary of the former president. That was in 1943.
The most beautiful cherry blossoms frame the grand memorial place. These cherry trees were gift from the Japanese people to Washington, DC. A lot of people wait for the trees to blossom which was normally during the month of January or at dawn to capture both the astonishing and picturesque view of the surrounding.- From the time of the dedication, few changes were made at The Memorial. Probably the most notable and worth mentioning was when the bronze statue of Thomas Jefferson was reinstated after the World War II’s restriction of metal was uplifted.
