The Kiawah Beach (of course!): The Kiawah Island beach is ideal for kids of all ages. Because Kiawah has one of the only beaches on the East Coast that runs east-to-west and actually faces south, the surf is usually very gentle. Rarely crowded, the wide, flat beach has firmly packed sand with shallow tide pools running parallel to the ocean. These elements make it a great spot for little ones – the hard sand makes walking easy, the gentle surf makes the ocean inviting and not scary, and the tide pools are great for sitting and playing in warm, shallow water. For older children and teens, the wide beach and hard sand create a perfect playing field for you and them. Toss a volleyball, football, or play any number of games on the beach.
Kiawah Resort Activity Programs: The Kiawah Island Golf Resort offers several outlets for kids' boundless energy. The Night Heron Park Nature Center lets little ones learn about Kiawah's rich ecosystem and local conservation efforts – they can even pet an alligator under the careful supervision of the Center's staff! With fun exhibits and plenty of nature tours to choose from, the Nature Center provides opportunities to get close to the local wildlife.
The Resort also offers "Kamp Kiawah" for kids ages 3 to 11 years, including "kids nights out" so they can have plenty of fun while you take in a sunset sail or enjoy a romantic dinner.
For kids between 7 and 12 years old, Kiawah's Youth Program will make sure they have plenty of fun. The Teen Program entertains children between 13 to 18 years old with pool parties, dances, sports and exercise programs (anyone up for zorbing? Freshfields Village on Kiawah Island: Kiawah's new town center, Freshfields Village, boasts quaint and upscale shops plus dining and lots of fun.
