Mahogany Bay Roatan is a Cruise Port built in cooperation with Carnival Cruise Lines and is located on the Southwest Coast of the Island of Roatan. The Welcome Center that cruise passengers enter in Mahogany Bay offers shopping.... leaving the welcome center brings the visitors into a tourist area with other shops, restaurants, and a separate beach.
We visited the Mahogany Bay on our Carnival Dream Cruise in May of 2010. The weather was beautiful, but it was hot - and this was only May! Mahogany Bay Roatan has a separate beach called Mahogany Beach. The beach is within walking distance of the shopping area (about 1/2 mile), or you can get there via a chair lift ride. The chair lift is pretty expensive in my opinion..... but you are on vacation!
Bear in mind that while you are in Mahogany Bay, you are not seeing the "real" Roatan Island. If you are just looking to do some shopping though, I found that the prices were a little better than the actual town prices.
There are opportunities for shore excursions form Mahogany Bay in Rotan... either those offered by the cruise lines, or excursions on your own.... If you leave Mahogany Bay, there will be taxis available to take you on city tours, or other (adhoc) excursion opportunities. We took a tour of the city, and a few of our party ventured onto the island to take part in a canopy tour.
