Muir Woods - a kid friendly walk in the California Woods...a National Monument and is a part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area... |
![]() |
When John Muir described the majestic coast redwoods in the woods, he stated... "This is the best tree-lovers monument that could possibly be found in all the forests of the world".
The Woods is located in Marin County, 12 miles north of San Francisco. It is a National Monument that protects 554 acres of Coast Redwood.
We did not get to visit the woods for very long, but what we saw was absolutely beautiful. The trees are huge, and amazing to see. The kids actually enjoyed the short stroll through the main loop from the visitors center.
Take a look at the picture to the left - the man in the picture is over 6 feet tall, and he does not even come close to the size of the base of the trees.

There is a nominal admission charge to help support the ongoing efforts to maintain the National Monument.
Visit the The Muir Woods web site for more information on the admission price and hours of operation.
