NBC Tour New York - Be a part of a real working studio while in NYC

Everyone in our family is a fan of NBC, so when we decided to try a studio tour on our family vacations stop there... the NBC Tour New York was at the top of our list.

We took our NBC Studio Tour during our Summer 2006 New York City Family Vacation.  We purchased our tickets in the NBC Experience Store, and were given a time to return for the tour.  The tour begins in the Sweet Shop of the NBC Experience Store (isn't that convenient - since you are required to be there 15 minutes ahead of time).... don't think that I didn't fall into the "please buy me a candy bar" trap.... but what's another $5 in New York City, right?

NBC pages lead the tour through the studio.... feel free to ask them questions, they are very knowledgeable about the history of NBC Studios.   The tour starts out with a some history of NBC dating back to the early days of radio.  Our tour then progressed to the Television Operating Center for a lesson in sound effects and make-up - then on to the High Definition Mini Control Studio where two members of our party got to be the newscaster and the weather person.... Amanda got to be the newscaster, and read the news form the teleprompter - She did a real good job, and looked very professional.

From there, we toured several of the NBC Tour New York ventured into the actual Studios.  We visited....

Studio 3C - Home of NBC Nightly News
Studio 6A - Home of Late Night with Conan O'Brien
Studio 8H - Home of Saturday Night Live

Studio 1A was under construction for Meredith Vieira's debut.....

It was all very impressive.  I really enjoyed the NBC Nightly News set.  The pages mentioned that the set was continuously ready for breaking news, and that they could have a broadcast on the air nationally within 2 minutes..... of course, that prompted me to want to know how they got the news anchors there that quickly.... there is a news anchor in the building 24 hours per day... so now you know.

The tour ends back in the NBC Experience Store...The NBC Tour New York was a great hit on our New York City Family Vacations.
