Planning a family vacation is a challenging task especially when the person planning the trip wants to find activities that will interest all the family members. Finding the perfect family vacation destinations that have all the things and activities is one task that every parent has to do.

Great family vacation destinations are those places that offer loads of activities that not only the kids or the parents will enjoy. The trick here is to find the balance so that all family members will have a great time. Especially if there are kids included in the trip, the task is very difficult. Their attention spans can rather be short, so there has to be something in the destination chosen that will sustain their interest for a span of time. Moreover, the activities planned in the destination have to be fast and quick. Any lull is something that will have children roll their eyes in no time.

A museum may be something that can be a bit of a risk when bringing children because the place is full of exhibits and displays that cannot be touched and off-limits. Hyperactive tots may find themselves getting bored and stomping their feet, demanding top go somewhere more interesting. Thus, any parent or guardian accompanying these kids need to be extra vigilant and be on guard all the time when in a museum.

What’s great about getting into museums like the Museum of the City of New York is that they offer free admission to children 12 and below. That means a remarkable deal of savings especially since admission prices for tourist attractions can add up to quite a sum that can be spent on other things like souvenirs or food.

If the family plans to go to the Big Apple, there are actually museums and galleries made especially for kids like the Children’s Museum in Manhattan. The Museum of the City of New York may appear to be more of a historical museum that kids may find dull, but it does have special activities and exhibitions that children may particularly find entertaining.

For example, there is a special ongoing exhibit from the permanent collection of the museum entitled On the Move, which features miniature vehicles and toys. The exhibit will surely be a hit for kids who fancy cars and vehicles, but they will also be treated to a little history lesson of how transportation has evolved in New York. The toys are not restricted to cars, as there are also miniature boats, carts, horse-drawn carriages and trucks.

The Museum of the City of New York also hosts seasonal exhibits that display the works of local children who participate in the FAO Schwarz Children’s Center’s Saturday Academy. These children usually create dioramas and other projects that show their lives, as well as other topics recommended during their Saturday classes.

Alas, children will have a great time looking at items in the museum’s gift shop. There are toys and models of famous New York City landmarks that kids would surely want their parents to buy for them.
