The Nut Tree Family Park - a family fun park in Northern California |
Update..... 2010
The Nut Tree Family Park has ceased operations... Gone are most of the rides except for the train and the carousel. Those are now housed in a plaza at the front of the complex. The train ride is very simple now - just two laps around the plaza. Tickets were $2 for the train, $2 for the carousel as of September 2010.....
---------------- Below is what the park was like before ----------------------
If you travel along I-80 between San Francisco and Sacramento, you will find what many Native Californians hold as a very fond childhood memory - The Nut Tree.
The Nut Tree Family Park originally opened in 1921 as a fruit stand under the shade of a Walnut Tree. The fruit stand, called the Nut Tree was the only fruit stand of its kind between San Francisco and Sacramento. The Enterprise expanded to a restaurant and fountain offerings... and then just grew from there. In 1952, The Nut Tree railroad made its debut on the scene, and the Family Park continued to grow.... until it was closed in 1996.
From 1921 to 1996, the Nut Tree was a favorite family stop along the
I-80 corridor. So, when the park re-opened in 2006 as a part of a
revitalization that includes The Nut Tree Village and the Nut Tree Complex, many many
families in California made the trek for a visit.
The Nut Tree Railroad rides the perimeter of the park and covers 1,800 feet of track. The train seats 70 people.
The park contains several other children's rides including a
carousel, the Nut Tree Flight school, the balloon ride, and the Nut Tree
Coaster, Traffic Jammers, and The California Rescue Squad along with
several fun activities.

Admission and Tickets
Admission to The Nut Tree Family Park is completely free, and each ride is then individually ticketed. Each ride takes between 2 and 4 tickets each.
Tickets may be purchased individually, or in discount family packages. Also available for purchase are unlimited ride wristbands.
**** Tip *****
I can speak from experience - if you are planning on visiting a park like this for more than an hour, go ahead and invest in the unlimited ride wrist band.... you always save money in the end.

Nut Tree Village
The "New" Nut Tree also includes The Nut Tree Village which is a shopping and dining mecca including many national retailers.
If you grew up around Northern California, and have not re-visited the Nut Tree Family Park, you owe it to yourself to go back and check it out.
