Presidio San Francisco - History abounds in San Francisco |
The Presidio is located in San Francisco, just south of the entrance to the golden gate bridge. It is a National Historic site that protects what was a U.S. Army Post for three nations. It was closed in 1989 as a part of the Base Realignment and Closure Act, and transferred to the National Park Service in 1994.
The Presidio is now a part of the Golden Gate Recreation Area. It houses a National Cemetery, and many hiking trails, biking trails, beaches, picnic areas, campsites.

I thought it very interesting, but while I was visiting the Visitor Center at the Presidio, I asked the cashier what the building were being used for now... she told me that the buildings were leased on a monthly basis for residential and business use.
The residential units available are form townhouse size to seven bedrooms. There is business leasing available in 250 buildings. I thought that a unique way to preserve the buildings and the surrounding area. For more information on the leasing of the buildings, you can visit http://www.presidio.gov/Leasing/.
Visit the The Presidio web site for more information.
