The Best Family Attractions in Washington, DC

Our Family traveled this past summer (2007) to Washington DC with our 11 and 16 year old kids.
Everyone loved the personal tour of the US Capitol that we received from our congressman's aide (book in advance).
The Smithsonian Air and Space Museum was a big hit. The Natural History Museum was enjoyed for the dinosaurs and the "Hope Diamond".
We had an especially good time at Mount Vernon. There is a wonderful new museum and a map for kids to follow with a prize at the end.
Our sixteen year old was most impressed with the Library of Congress and its beautiful interior. They have a great free guide for kids to learn about the library.
The National Archives had a great exhibit about Presidents and their school years. It made them seem more real.
Our best advice...
Best advice, ride the Washington DC metro rail as much as possible and take advantage of the food courts at some attractions for an inexpensive lunch.... this will help you make the most of your Washington DC family vacation.
