Things To Do in DC

Washington DC is a great place to visit with the family. Our family liked visiting the Capitol and the White House and enjoying all of the activities on the National Mall.
If you're interested in visiting the Capitol and White House, you should call your State Representative. Your Representative often provides tours of the Capitol - done by his/her own staff (and it is free!) and sometimes has tickets for a tour of the White House (again, free tickets). They will tell you what day and time they have these tours.
All of the museums on the National Mall are free, as well. Although, it is important to get there early because they do get crowded quickly. The Air & Space Museum was a favorite. The children also enjoyed just letting off some steam by running up the hill to the National Monument.
No trip is complete without seeing the Vietnam Veterans Memorial as well as the Jefferson Memorial and Lincoln Memorial. A Washington DC family vacation requires a lot of walking, but its all worth it.
If your family isn't made up of walkers DC does have a great "Duck Tour". It's a vehicle that goes on both land and water, so you get different views of the city.
