Times Square New York - You need to see it to believe it! |
***Updated June 2009***
It was 7:30 PM on a summer evening, darkness was falling, and three hillbillies
from Tennessee climbed the stairs from the
New York City Subway to the lights of
Times Square....
It was a sight to see (I am talking about it being a sight to see the three of
us standing there with our mouths hanging open)....then to top it all off, my 12
year old daughter, Amanda says.... THIS IS WHERE I WANT TO LIVE!!!! She
will probably do it too.....stay tuned....
Times Square is home to 22 Landmark Broadway Theaters (Be sure to check out our New York City Broadway Shows adventure), music and live entertainment, great restaurants, and fabulous shopping, but it also has a very rich history.
Times Square was originally named Longacre Square, and did not take
on its name of Times Square until 1904. In 1904 then name was changed to
Times Square to commemorate the official opening of the new headquarters of the
New York Times. At that time, Times Square New York had already been
established as an entertainment mecca, and carries on that tradition today.
Wile visiting Times Square, we enjoyed the huge Toys-R-Us store, which features a 60 ft tall indoor Ferris Wheel, but mostly we just enjoyed seeing the sights of Times Square New York.

*** June 2009 Update ***
We visited Times Square New York once again in June 2009. On this trip, we decided to stay in the Times Square area.... what a fabulous idea! We originally thought that we
could not afford to stay in the Times Square area, but after searching on Hotwire (you can search hotwire for yourself at the bottom of this page), we found the Millenium Broadway Hotel.
The hotel was great, and was right on Times Square between 44th and 45th Streets.
While staying in the Times Square area, each and everytime that we walked out of our hotel, there was something going on..... you would not believe the action! One morning, as we left, we walked righ into a taping of a commercial for the Lion King Broadway show.... one other evening, we were witness to the taping of a scene from the movie "Date Night" with Steve Carrell and Tina Fey... and the two of them were taping the scene..... We also caught a glimpse of the Naked Cowboy.... not to mention that we were within easy walking distance of all of the network studios offering the fun morning shows.

Our Tips
Stay together
- it was extremely crowded when we were there.
Go during the
day, but also try to visit during the evening too just to see the lights....
If you have very small children, or
do not like crowds, you might not want to try Times Square....
