Tweetsie Railroad - An exciting kid friendly amusement park in the North Carolina Mountains |
Tweetsie
is a jewel buried in the North Carolina Mountains. The
amusement park is located between Boone and Blowing Rock on Highway 321.
Tweetsie Railroad has been around for quite a while, and holds many happy memories for folks in North Carolina.... folks who return generation after generation bringing their children to enjoy the park.
When you arrive at Tweetsie, and enter the park, make a left turn from the main entrance, and head straight down Main Street to the Western Store - all of the little cowboys and cowgirls in your party will need a cap gun and hat before riding the train. My family was fortunate to visit the park with two young cousins, so we were really treated to Tweetsie through the eyes of young boys..... and we had a ball.

All through the park, there are opportunities for taking photographs. Even the older children in your party will enjoy the horse statues all along Main Street.
Tweetsie has shops, restaurants, shows, rides for little children, rides for older children and adults, and the famous Tweetsie Steam Locomotive Number 12, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.... something for everyone.
We have visited Tweetsie several times over the years - most recently in the summer of 2007. The park is extremely well maintained and clean. All of the employees and cast members were very friendly and helpful.... a great family vacation treat.

The chair lift takes visitors to the park from the main entrance area to Miner's Mountain. It is a very relaxing ride across the mountainous terrain.... good for getting where you are going, or just for a ride up and back down the Mountain. |

This ride is is really for the little children - but adults are welcome aboard. The train moves quickly around a short track and through a tunnel which is set up as a mouse mine - mice are actually mining a vane of cheese from the earth. |

Tweetsie Railroad Show Reviews
Steam
Locomotive Number 12 is listed on the National Register of Historical
Places. The Tweetsie Train snakes through the North Carolina
Mountains.... leading you through a couple exciting adventures. The
cowboys on the train take part in helping to catch and arrest a notorious
robber.... it gets pretty exciting.... the cap guns come in handy.

A fantastic show with a great deal of audience participation. The can-can girls each sing a song individually, and come into the audience to "visit". Topaz sat down and asked my 11 year old son if she could be his girlfriend. It was an awesome show.
Hopper and Porter's Musical Celebration

This show is a great children's show. Hopper and Porter get the children in the audience involved in the musical numbers as they endeavor to keep the train moving on schedule.

There is a fantastic petting zoo at the top of Miner's Mountain at
Tweetsie. There are goats, deer, llamas, and several other
different animals. The children are allowed to feed the animals
and pet them as long as they like.
The country fair rides include the Ferris wheel, the tilt-a-whirl,
cars, the round-up, the tornado, a carousel, and a free-fall
drop tower. There are several young children's rides in
the Country Fair section as well.
