Walking San Francisco with Kids!

The Golden Gate Bridge

A great day of walking around San Francisco usually includes stopping at Pier 39 to see the sea lions, looking out at Alcatraz, then walking toward Fisherman's Warf, briefly stopping at the Boudin Sourdough Bakery for a bread bowl with clam chowder or chili, watching the bush man and street performers, perusing the souvenir shops, and making your way to the famous San Francisco Trolley.

But, before you hop on that trolley, one of my favorite kid friendly treats in San Francisco is Ghirardelli Square! Kids absolutely love candy and chocolate, and getting handed a free candy when you enter the store is enough reason to stop by. There are at least two chocolate shops, one is the restaurant and the other is a coffee shop. My personal favorite is the coffee shop, free chocolate upon entering, a great mocha or hot cocoa to warm up and for those rare days when it is warm out, a big ice cream sundae! That sugar rush will keep the kids moving while you shop the gigantic shops in Union Square!

Walking San Francisco is the best way to go - but if you aren't into walking ALL over, there are tour buses that will allow you to get on and off throughout the day at various points.

If you have extra time, you can start your walk at the Ferry Building (or end it there). I love the Ferry Building for the great views of the Bay Bridge and incredible dining opportunities. My all time favorite place in the Ferry Building is Miette - the Princess Cake is my recommendation! You can order cakes in advance for pick up, or hope they have what you want.

San Francsico's Chinatown is a must hit, and you can get your cheapest San Francisco souvenirs here! Check out the link for events that might be happening when you visit, like the Chinese New Year Parade.

Chocolate and cake are not the only things kids like, but it's vacation, so spoil them with amazing treats and experiences they will remember forever!
