The Washington Monument - monument that is seen form across Washington DC |
The Monument
was
built in honor of the first president of the United States of America, George
Washington. The tour of the monument was one of our favorite family
vacations stops.
The tour of the Monument is free, but does require a ticket. We went early in the morning to pick up the free tickets, and then returned later in the day for our tour time.
The monument is 555' 5/8" tall, and in clear weather visibility is 30 - 40 miles. The views of Washington DC and the National Mall from the monument are wonderful. The children spent a lot of time running back and forth from side to side looking out at our Nation's Capitol. Washington DC is a great family vacations destination, and visiting the Monument to Washington is a must.
On a clear day, the view from the top of the monument is awesome. We enjoyed the view early in the day when the dew was just clearing from the National Mall. From the top, you can see all of the other things that you want to visit.
